Dr Karthic Babu Natarajan is the first full-time Pain and Spine Specialist from Tamil Nadu, India. Dr Karthic Natarajan specializes in treating back pain, joint pain (including knee pain), neck and shoulder pain, headaches, and neuropathic pain syndromes. He is an expert at providing relief from pain related problems without open surgery. Disc prolapse or slipped disc causing sciatic back pain radiating down the legs is his particular area of interest. He is highly skilled at performing a wide range of image-guided pain interventions, including radiofrequency ablations, nerve root injections, neuromodulators, and neurolytic blocks, among others, for providing the best long-term relief pain. He is also trained in minimally invasive endoscopic spine procedures.
He is the foremost authority in the study and practice of pain medicine, having performed the maximum number of pain interventions in this part of India. He was adjudged the Best Pain Physician of the Year in 2017.
He has been the Secretary for the World Institute of Pain, India Section and Secretary for the Indian Society of Study of Pain (TN). He is also an examiner for the international FIPP exams. He is a prominent speaker at national and international pain conferences. He regularly conducts workshops to train junior doctors in pain medicine and interventions.
He partners with his colleague, Dr Vanmathy V, to own and run the Synapse Pain and Spine Clinic at Besant Nagar, Chennai, India.
Education
- Dr Karthic Natarajan earned his MBBS at SRMC in Chennai, where he was a gold medallist too.
- He completed his MD in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine in Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (Manipal Academy of Higher Education).
- He is also a Diplomat of the National Board (DNB) of India. He completed his Interventional Pain Management (FIPM) Fellowship from Aesculap Academy (Germany) / Daradia Pain Clinic.
- He completed his Fellow in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) degree from the World Institute of Pain, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, USA.
- He is among the first 5 Indians to complete his FIPP.
- He worked as an Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine in Sri Ramachandra Medical College previously.
Practice
- He practices interventional pain management at Synapse Pain & Spine Clinic and Apollo Hospitals in Chennai.
- He is also a visiting consultant at a host of other city hospitals, including V S Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals, Apollo Spectra, Apollo Proton, Kauvery Hospital and Naruvi Hospital at Vellore
