Synapse Pain and Spine Clinic in Chennai, India is a Musculo-Skeletal, sports injuries and chronic pain
clinic. Synapse Pain Medicine Academy is run by a multi-disciplinary team that includes certified,
experienced Pain physicians, Orthopedician & physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists. The
clinic conducts regular teaching programs for post graduate doctors intended in specializing in Pain
Medicine. The Synapse pain management fellowship will include basic and advanced pain
interventions, ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided interventional pain management, MSK
procedures, Cancer pain and regenerative MSK techniques. They are comprehensive Fellowship in
Interventional Pain Management (FIPM) and Fellowship in Regenerative Medicine (FIRM-MSK)
courses and intended to enable doctors to start their pain management careers independently.

Course Description:
Our Pain management and Regenerative medicine courses include outpatient clinical examinations,
case discussions, x ray/MRI discussions, mannequin practice sessions and image guided pain
interventions. This course will be suitable for anesthesia, orthopaedic, PMR, radiology and neuro
surgery post graduates to gain reasonable knowledge about pain medicine and pain interventions.
Delegates planning to appear in pain fellowship exams like World Institute of Pain’s FIPP, CIPS, EDPM
and FIAPM will find the course useful.

Fellowship of Interventional Pain Management (FIPM) Course
We offer Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management (FIPM) courses at Synapse Pain Academy for Post-Graduate doctors interested in pursuing pain medicine as a career. The course intends to provide hands-on experience at a multi-disciplinary, musculoskeletal and chronic pain management centre. Comprehensive knowledge of pain medicine, patient evaluation, hand-on experience in image-guided pain procedures, regenerative pain procedures, endoscopic spine procedures and advanced pain techniques will be provided. The course would essentially be an internship under the guidance of Dr Karthic Natarajan and team.
Module 1:
Introduction to Pain Medicine, Anatomy of Spine and nerves, Pain Pharmacology, How to read MRI
films, machine in pain medicine
Module 2:
Lumbar Spine anatomy, Approach to lower back pain, Examination of lumbar spine, Intervertebral
disc degeneration / herniation, Facet arthropathy, Sacro Iliac arthropathy, Coccydynia and lumbar
spine interventional techniques
Module 3:
Cervical Spine anatomy, Approach to cervical spine, Examination of cervical spine, cervical radicular
pain, cervical facet pain, whiplash injuries, upper back myofascial pain, occipital neuralgia and
cervical spine interventional techniques
Module 4:
Headaches, facial pains, trigeminal neuralgia, sphenopalatine neuralgia, TM joint and atypical facial
pain and head interventional techniques and RF ablations.
Module 5:
Sports Injuries, Musculo skeletal injuries – Shoulder, Elbow and Wrist. MSK injuries in Hip, Knee and
Ankle. Ultrasound MSK interventions – PRP, BMAC, Adipose tissue/ SVF regenerative techniques.
Module 6:
Cancer Pain Management, basic and advanced cancer blocks, sympathetic ganglion neurolytic and RF ablations.
Module 7:
Neuropathic pain syndromes, Fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndromes, peripheral nerve
entrapment neuropathies, CRPS, Pain IV infusion therapies
During the course, delegates will start classes from 10:00 AM to 4.30 PM on all week days in the Synapse Pain and Spine Clinic, Besant Nagar, Chennai. On the last date, the course will finish with doubt clearing session. Delegates can plan their travel after 5:00 PM on the last day.
The courses start on the first day of every month, subject to availability. Course fee does not include food and accommodation. On successful completion of the course, the delegates will be awarded a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management (FIPM).

FELLOWSHIP IN REGENERATIVE MEDICINE (FIRM - MSK)
We offer a Fellowship in Musculo Skeletal Regenerative Medicine (FIRM – MSK) course in Synapse Pain Academy for post graduate doctors interested in super specializing in Regenerative Medicine in Musculo Skeletal conditions. The course contains comprehensive training modules on regenerative medicine techniques – Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC), Adipose tissue derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF), etc. Ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided injection techniques for Joint and Spine related MSK applications, sports injuries and similar applications will be taught.
Course includes outpatient examinations, case discussions, decision making skill enhancement, MRI / CT scan reading, preparations techniques, ultrasound guided administration techniques in MSK, rehabilitation protocols for common injuries, etc. The course is run by qualified Pain Physicians, Orthopedicians and Regenerative medicine experts from the Synapse Pain & Spine Clinic. Reading material in the form of soft copies and limited Hands-on experience can be expected. On successful completion of course, delegates will be awarded Fellowship in Regenerative Medicine (FIRM-MSK).
